今回の定例ミーティングでは、シンガポールから名古屋大学文学部に留学に来ている、タン・ジェネヴィーブさんをお招きし「良妻賢母」をテーマにお話をいただきました。

このテーマに興味を持った背景として、急速な経済発展と高学歴化が進むシンガポールにおける、タンさんご自身の成長環境とお祖母様が育った時代の比較を紹介していました。
また、妻や母という役割は生まれながらにしてではなく、教育によって女性のあるべき姿として教えられてきたこと、日本社会における理想の女性イメージは、まだまだ「良妻賢母」の影響を受けているのではないか、という示唆をしていました。

留学生からは、性差によって求められる役割が異なることに対して、「信じられない」という意見や、「そういった面も私たちの国でもある」といったコメントが寄せられていました。

At this regular meeting, we invited Ms. Tan Genevieve, from Singapore, to talk about the theme of “Good Wife and Wise Mother.”

Ms. Tan said the reason why she was interested in this theme was that she intended to compare the Japanese culture related to Women’s Role in the society and the Singapore society, where rapid economic development and people pursuing higher education had been in progress. She mentioned that the roles of wife and mother have been taught as the ideal form of women by education, not by nature, but the ideal female image in Japanese society is still influenced by “good wife and wise mother”.
