今回のテーマは「タイのお守りとビジネスチャンス」。
タイから名古屋大学大学院環境学研究科に留学に来ている、Trairat Aroowongさん（ニックネーム：Boomさん）が講師をつとめました。

タイでは多くの人たちが小さなお守りを持っています。
その理由は、戦争が多かった時代に心の拠り所であるお寺にいくことができなくなり、この小さなお守りが心の支えとなって、人々を守ってきたからだそうです。平和が続いている現代では、お守り主な目的は幸運を願うことにかわってきています。

現在、お守りを手に入れる方法は、スーパーマーケットの販売所「お守りセンター」、フリーマーケットでの個人売買、そしてお寺からの購入する３つあります。
そのうち、本当に仏教のため、お寺のためにお金が使われるのは、当然、お寺からの購入のみ。

昔のお守りは仏教を守るというしっかりとした意味があったが、今はお寺が関わらないビジネスとしてのお守りの販売が増えており、Boomさんは心配をしていました。
海外ではタイから輸入したお守りがインターネット上で高値で取引をされているので、そのビジネスにお守りセンターや個人売買ではない、お寺から購入するルートを確立することが、本当の意味での「お守りビジネス」にとって有効であり、お守りをつくること通じて地域経済も発展する契機となる、と話していました。

Trairat Aroowong (Mr. Boom), who is studying at the Graduate School of Environmental Studies, Nagoya University from Thailand, delivered his presentation at this time.

Many people in Thailand have small amulets. The reason is that during the war-prone era, it became impossible to go to the temple, so they believed that and this small amulet supported and protected people. In today’s peaceful world, the main purpose of amulets has changed to wish a good luck.

Currently, there are three ways to get an amulet: a supermarket, private sale at a flea market, and purchase from a temple.

In the old days, amulets had a strong meaning of protecting Buddhism, but nowadays, sales of amulets as a business, that does not involve temples, are increasing.

At overseas, the amulets imported from Thailand are traded at high prices on the Internet as a profitable business. It also became a big opportunity for the local economy to develop through making amulets.
