今回は、岐阜県岐阜市の極楽寺において31代目の住職をつとめる山田教準様にお越しいただきました。
日本人は、初詣・お盆・クリスマスなどの行事のほか、キリスト教式の結婚式をし、人が亡くなれば仏式で葬式をあげるなど多様な宗教儀式に接しており、「無宗教」といわれることがあるが、「日本人はいろいろな宗教に対して寛容な心を持ち、生活の中に取り込んでいる」ことを紹介されました。また、近世における寺子屋の機能が、日本人の識字率の大幅な向上に貢献したことを指摘されました。
最後に、山田様が所属している浄土宗西山禅林寺派の教えとして、仏教徒はもちろんキリスト教やイスラム教の方も含めて「全ての者は救われる」という理念を示し、「他の宗教を否定せず、認めていく心があれば、宗教戦争も起きない」という、「平和への願い」をASEAN留学生に伝えておられました。

He explained that “everyone will be saved” including Buddhists as well as Christians and Moslems, and “other religions He told ASEAN international students his “wish for peace” that “if you have the will to admit without denying it, there will be no religious war.”
