ASEAN-NAGOYA CLUBは、来月で満3年を迎えます。

名古屋大学大学院国際開発研究科（GSID）との連携のもと、ASEAN各国からの留学生を支援することができました。この4月からは、インドネシア経済産業省とASEAN-NAGOYA CLUBは、ジョイント・イノベーション・プログラムを開始しました。このプログラムの推進者であるインドネシア経済産業省の事務次官は、GSIDの卒業生です。また、第一回セミナーはGSIDの島田教授にご講義いただきました。 GSIDとして時代に即応する形で、大学は何ができるかというプレゼンを受けました。

研究だけではなく、現実社会を動かしている企業との連携が重要ではないかというお話が、先生方からありました。GSIDは今年で２６年目。２６年の歳月を経て、全世界に送り出した人材は２０００人近くにのぼります。若き日に名古屋大学で学び、日本を経験し、帰国した方々は、みなさん母国で枢要な働きをされておられます。名古屋をこよなく愛する事務次官のように、GSIDでの経験が人生の基礎になっておられるようです。 真の国際交流とは、単に貿易、投資だけではなく、心の交流が伴わなければ脆弱なものです。信頼関係のない経済交流ではいけません。いったいその国の人は何を考え、何を楽しみ、何を悩み、どんな人生を送るのかということを含めた相互理解が不可欠です。 ２５年の歴史に裏付けられたGSIDは、新興国への人材供給については、いまや日本最大の拠点ではないでしょうか。

これまで、こうした活動を続けてこられたGSIDの関係者の皆さんのご努力には頭が下がる思いです。 ASEAN地域はテイクオフし、これまでのGSIDの皆さんが蒔かれてきた種がいよいよ開花していく時期をむかえます。 今日の先生方のお話は、まさにそうした未来を予感するものでした。大学でできること、民間の私たちができること、力を合わせていけば、きっと輝かしい新たな時代をつくることができることを確信した定例会となりました。

ASEAN-NAGOYA CLUB is celebrating the 3rd anniversary next month.

In collaboration with the Graduate School of International Development (GSID), Nagoya University, we were able to support international students from ASEAN countries. From this April, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Indonesia and ASEAN-NAGOYA CLUB have started a joint innovation program. The secretary of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Indonesia, who promoted this program, is a graduate of GSID. In addition, Professor Shimada of GSID gave a lecture at the first seminar.

The discussion was about the importance of collaboration with companies which expand to other countries, not just research. GSID has been established for 26 years and nearly 2,000 people have been sent out to the world. Those who studied at Nagoya University at a young age, experienced Japan, and returned home are all doing important work in their home countries. Like the administrative vice-minister who loves Nagoya, his experience at GSID seems to be the basis of his life.

The true international exchange is not just trade and investment, but also emotional relationships. It should not be an economic exchange without a trust. Mutual understanding is essential, including what people in that country think, what they enjoy, what they worry about, and what kind of life they live. GSID is now Japan’s largest base for supplying human resources to the emerging countries.

I am deeply impressed by the efforts of all the people involved in GSID who have continued these activities. The ASEAN region will take off, and the seeds that have been sown by GSID members will finally bloom. We were convinced that if we could do what we could do at university and the private sector together, we would surely be able to create a brilliant new era.
