「150年の歴史が紡ぐ、写真文化と『和』の精神」

ASEAN-NAGOYA CLUBでは、150年以上の歴史を持つ老舗写真館「瀬古写真」の5代目である瀬古氏を講師にお迎えし、「写真文化と日本の精神性」をテーマにご講演いただきました。

講演では、創業以来受け継がれてきた歴史や理念とともに、写真を単なる記録ではなく、人と人との想いや家族の絆を未来へつなぐ文化として捉える考え方について紹介されました。時代の変化とともに写真を取り巻く環境が大きく変わる中でも、「人を撮る」という本質を大切にし続けてきた歩みは、多くの参加者に深い印象を与えました。

また、海外での経験を通じて感じた日本の写真文化の特徴や、世界へ向けて日本ならではの価値を発信する重要性についても語られました。写真という表現を通じ、日本文化の魅力や「和」の精神を国内外へ伝えていくことの意義について、多くの示唆をいただきました。

講演の中では、日本文化に共通する「道」の考え方や、「共存共栄」を大切にする姿勢にも触れられました。競争だけではなく、お互いを尊重しながら価値を高め合うという考え方は、企業経営や国際交流にも通じる普遍的なテーマであり、ASEAN-NAGOYA CLUBが目指す国際交流の理念とも重なる内容となりました。

質疑応答では、人材育成やクリエイティブな発想を育むための考え方、写真業界の今後の展望、AI技術の進展による変化など、幅広いテーマについて活発な意見交換が行われました。テクノロジーが進化する時代だからこそ、人が持つ感性や創造力、そして相手を思いやる心の価値はますます重要になるという考えが共有され、参加者にとって多くの学びを得る時間となりました。

150 Years of History: Photography, Japanese Culture, and the Spirit of Harmony

ASEAN-NAGOYA CLUB welcomed Mr. Seko, the fifth-generation owner of the historic Seko Photo Studio, a photography studio with more than 150 years of history, as the guest speaker for its regular meeting. His lecture focused on the themes of photography, Japanese culture, and the spirit of harmony.

During the presentation, Mr. Seko shared the history and philosophy that have been passed down through generations of his family business. He explained that photography is more than simply preserving images—it is a meaningful way to preserve emotions, family bonds, and precious memories for future generations. Despite the dramatic changes in photography over the years, Seko Photo Studio has remained committed to its founding belief of capturing people and their stories.

Drawing from his international experience, Mr. Seko also spoke about the unique characteristics of Japanese photographic culture and the importance of sharing Japan’s cultural values with the world. He emphasized that photography has the power to communicate not only beauty, but also the spirit of Japanese culture and its timeless values.

Another key topic of the lecture was the Japanese philosophy of Wa (harmony) and the concept of Do (the Way). Rather than pursuing competition alone, Mr. Seko highlighted the importance of mutual respect, cooperation, and shared prosperity. These values resonate strongly with the mission of ASEAN-NAGOYA CLUB, which promotes international understanding and collaboration between Japan and ASEAN countries.

The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, where participants exchanged views on a wide range of topics, including talent development, creativity, the future of the photography industry, and the growing influence of artificial intelligence. While acknowledging the rapid advancement of technology, Mr. Seko stressed that human creativity, sensitivity, and empathy will remain irreplaceable qualities in the years ahead.
